Full Time Respiratory Therapist
Evening and Night Shifts

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director and Supervisors.  Provides respiratory care procedures as ordered by the physician in accordance with established standards and practices.

PRIMARY (ESSENTIAL) DUTIES
1. Provide respiratory therapy (conventional/routine) to all patients of all age groups, infants to adults, as ordered.  Explains purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients.

2. Receive assignment.  Check patient chart and physician's orders.  Set up equipment and medications and administer treatments as ordered, e.g., oxygen administration, humidity therapy, airway management, resuscitation, postural drainage procedures; closed atmosphere and respiratory monitoring, intermittent positive pressure breathing, aerosol therapy, and pharmacology respiratory therapy.  Chart treatment, response, and progress.

3. Monitor environmental control systems, others. Do nasotracheal and tracheal (endotracheal tube or tracheostomy) suctioning.

4. Make patient rounds regularly.  Observe patient, check equipment, change/make adjustments as necessary.  Solve problems.  Discontinue therapy as ordered.  Remove equipment from patient rooms, disassemble, etc.

5. Recognize medical problems and report these to physician and supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be eligible for permanent licensure by the Idaho State Board of Medicine as a Respiratory Care Practitioner and must possess a temporary license/student exemption.

Respiratory Therapist (Registered)
St. Alphonsus in Boise
Department: NICU
Schedule: Full-time
Shift: Night Shift
Hours: 7p-7a
Job Details: Meets medical center's Customer Services Standards including interpersonal communication and professional conduct expectations. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to competently care for all assigned age groups (Neonate, Child, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric as applicable). Ensure the accuracy of documenting services and supplies provided to the patients. Demonstrates ability to recognize changes in patients and modifies care as necessary according to departmental standards and approved physician protocols. Performs airway and ventilator management, which includes assessment, application, intubation, monitoring, and evaluation of modality. Performs arterial line insertions, ABG sticks, conducts ABG analysis and interprets results. Completes all mandatory-training requirements on time. Acts as preceptor to support and develop new and existing RT employees. Assists the department manager with Performance Improvement projects and other duties as needed.
 

Must have current RRT credential. Valid Idaho Respiratory Care Practitioner license. Healthcare provider BLS certification required or obtained within 90 days of hire date. ACLS certification required or obtained within six months of hire. Current PALS or NRP certification preferred. Pediatric and/or Neonatal experience a plus. Must possess good organization skill and English language communication skill. Ability to function independently and proficiently in all patient care areas. Intermediate computer skills with an emphasis on MS Office Applications.

RESPIRATORY THERAPIST:
  • Ensure quality control compliance and perform quality control tasks in accordance with Company procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have the ability to work at a quick pace and meet deadlines.
  • Previous related experience a plus.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Respiratory Therapist License in active status with 2 year degree a must; 4 year RT degree a plus.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of MS Office (including word, excel, access, power point and publisher).  Fastrack system knowledge is a plus.

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the Cardiopulmonary department success. Coordinates care of respiratory patients including our Sleep Lab. Working director includes supervising a staff of 5. This is a full time benefited position working various shifts and rotating call 6-8 nights per month.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Essential Functions

    • Directs, schedules, and supervises others in the delivery of Cardiopulmonary care.  Responsible for the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
    • Coordinates mobile services (e.g. sleep lab, cardiovascular and neuro-diagnostics).
    • Prepares, monitors, and is accountable for department budget.
    • Ensures compliance with regulations governing hospitals and Cardiopulmonary practice.
    • Recognizes and takes action on potentially unsafe acts and conditions.
    • Represents organization in its relationship to other agencies/organizations.
    • Ensures that policies, procedures, and standards are developed, implemented, and maintained.
    • Performs clinical duties as described in Registered/Certified Respiratory Therapist position description.
    • Responsible for staffing of department including regular hours and taking call

B. Education and Experience

    • Associates degree required.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Current Idaho license in Respiratory Therapy required.  NBRC Registered credential preferred.
    • Demonstrated progressive clinical and management experience (5 years experience preferred or demonstration of increased responsibility in department).
    • Ability to operate a computer proficiently.  Understanding of computer systems and ability to analyze system software to make it function as needed.
    • Knowledge of safety practices, standards, and professional practices.
    • Ability and willingness to demonstrate and maintain clinical and age related competency as required for the Cardiopulmonary department.
    • Excellent communication skills to include oral and written comprehension/expression.
    • Ability to manage in a dynamic and fluctuating work environment.

The Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) is now part of Homeland Security. Joining this team does require considerable binding obligations. If selected to be part of this team, you will spend a considerable amount of money for your personal supplies. Also, if you are part of this team and they call for an emergency response, you will be expected to respond (if called you will have 8 hours from HI to FLY. You would be expected to work in possibly very inhospitable environments until relieved by backup teams. If interested contact Lande Lambert.
